Steve Clifford Career
After graduating from college, Steve became a teacher at Woodland High School and at the school he gained his first coaching experience, serving for two seasons as their head coach and he led them to two tournaments.
He went ahead to serve at Fairfield University, Boston University, St. Anslem College, and Siena College as an assistant coach. At Adelphi University, in 1995, Clifford assumed the head coaching duties where he coached for four seasons leading the team in the NCAA Division II Tournament with an 86-36 (. 705) record.
He became the first coach with more than 20 consecutive wins in school history. Under Jeff Van Gundy, Steve became an NBA assistant coach with the Houston Rockets and New York Knicks and quickly developed a reputation as a defensive expert.
Steve then was an assistant for Stan Van Gundy with the Orlando Magic. Clifford considers Van Gundy as his mentor. With Orlando, he appeared in the NBA Finals in 2009 and reached the NBA Playoffs in each of five seasons. He then joined the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2012-13 season as an assistant.
