During the 2008 flood, Eric and his brother Mike organized a relief operation, transporting critical goods from the Rockford Airport to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He has also been nominated for three Regional Emmy Awards and received the Illinois Broadcasters Association’s Silver Dome Award for broadcast excellence. Because of his work on climate change communication, he is also a Fellow of the Society of Environmental Journalism. He also serves on the board of Clock, Inc., the Quad City’s sole LGBTQ resource center.
